On the invitation from School of Environment and Civil Engineering, Jiangnan University, professor Sai Gu, the head of Department of Chemical and Process Engineering, University of Surrey, UK, visit Jiangnan University for academic exchange and communication on 8-9 April 2019. Professor Gu gave an academic report entitled "Innovation for a Century Old Chemical Engineering" in conference room D303 of the school. Teachers and students participated in and listened to the report.

Professor Gu first introduced the University of Surrey and the research team of the department of chemical and process engineering, then he explained the new concept of "sixth sense of chemical industry", the contents and the future direction, and reported the research on biomass energy, green chemistry, environmental protection and health, etc. At the end of the report, Professor Gu answered the questions from teachers and students, introduced his own overseas study and research experience, encouraged students to study hard, integrate use of the knowledge, and focus on the multiple cross in scientific research. The report had achieved a good effect on academic exchange.

After the report, dean Liu He, vice dean Miao Hengfeng, associate professor Zhao Mingxing, associate professor Xie Lijuan, vice director of international office of university Cai Jianying, Assistant of dean in school of international education and north American college Yang Xiaoming met with professor Gu. It discussed the exchange of undergraduate and graduate students between Jiangnan University and University of Surrey, and the China-UK cooperative education. After discussion, two universities reached preliminary intention of "3+1" undergraduate cooperative project and the "1+1+1" of graduate students. Two sides were agreed to promote the implementation of the Jiangnan- Surrey cooperative project as soon as possible.

On April 9, professor Gu was invited to attend the "Jiangsu-UK 20+20 World- Class University Consortium & International University-Industry-Research Cooperation Forum" in Zhenjiang, together with vice dean Miao Hengfeng, associate professor Zhao Mingxing and teachers from international office of university. The conference was attended by 23 universities from Jiangsu province and 16 universities from UK. The Chinese and UK universities jointly issued “Jiangsu Declaration” on the promotion of university construction, international talent cultivation, international scientific and technological innovation, and international cultural communication.
